Who We Are
Mission
The Alliance for Florida’s National Parks uses the power of philanthropy to support education, exploration, and conservation in Big Cypress National Preserve and Biscayne, Dry Tortugas, and Everglades National Parks.
Vision
To inspire our community to know, love, and support Florida’s national parks.
History
Founded in 2002 as the South Florida National Parks Trust, our organization began as a grant-making entity benefiting Big Cypress National Preserve and Biscayne, Dry Tortugas, and Everglades National Parks. Over nearly two decades, the Trust managed and distributed millions of dollars in grants to the parks.
In 2020, to reflect our expanded scope of fundraising and collaboration, we rebranded as The Alliance for Florida’s National Parks. This change marked a shift from grant distribution to active fundraising, leveraging private philanthropy to fill critical gaps in federal funding.
Today, The Alliance serves as the official 501(c)(3) philanthropic partner of Florida’s national parks, raising funds to support education, exploration, and conservation initiatives that connect people to the natural beauty and importance of these treasured public lands.
What We Do
How We Accomplish Our Mission and Vision
The Alliance for Florida’s National Parks fulfills its mission through three pillars of support — education, exploration, and conservation; ensuring that Big Cypress National Preserve and Biscayne, Dry Tortugas, and Everglades National Parks continue to thrive for generations to come.
Education
We provide essential funding for National Park Service education programs that give students and teachers access to hands-on learning experiences in South Florida’s national parks. These programs, including ranger-led classroom lessons and field-based activities, align with Florida’s state standards and inspire environmental stewardship, scientific curiosity, and future careers in conservation.
Exploration
We host community events and outreach activities that connect people of all ages to the beauty and significance of Florida’s national parks. Signature events like Two Nights Under the Stars, Wine & Wildlife, and Big Cypress Celebration invite the public to experience nature firsthand, fostering awareness, advocacy, and support for park preservation.
Conservation
We fund vital conservation initiatives that safeguard ecosystems, wildlife, and cultural resources within the parks. These efforts fill critical gaps left by limited federal funding, supporting habitat restoration, preservation projects, and the long-term sustainability of South Florida’s natural environment.
Through philanthropy, partnerships, and public engagement, The Alliance ensures that education, exploration, and conservation remain central to the visitor experience. Helping all who encounter Florida’s national parks to know, love, and protect them.
