

Who We Are
Citizens for a Better South Florida (CITIZENS) is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to providing environmental education, particularly to the under-served community, that inspires active stewardship and preservation of the South Florida environment. CITIZENS' headquarters is located in a historic bungalow in the heart of Miami's Little Havana neighborhood, hosting a native demonstration garden used to educate the community about native plants and their importance in the South Florida landscape. Some of our programs include a Community Science Workshop, restoration and Virginia Key, neighborhood tree plantings, and GO NATIVE! Nursery.
What We Do
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: - Work on developing our native plant demonstration garden. - Work with CITIZENS to create projects to enhance the garden such as solar panels, rain barrels and informational signage. - Create promotional materials such as videos, flyers, brochures and social media for CITIZENS. - Assist with tree planting events within the community, restore natural Florida habitats, develop environmental science curricula and conduct environmental education outreach in the community. - 5 hour minimum commitment required for volunteering. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: - Can be tailored to students' specific academic interests!! - 40 hours minimum commitment required for internships. - Work primarily at CITIZENS' headquarter office in Little Havana. - Please email us your schedule and subject interest to info@abettersouthflorida.org
