Volunteer: Companion Care VolunteerCatholic Hospice, serving Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, is looking for Companion Care Volunteers. Companion Care Volunteers provide companionship to hospice patients and respite to caregivers by playing games with a patient, reading, singing songs, or simply just spending time with them. Patient visits are available 7 days a week from 9 am till 9 pm throughout Miami-Dade and Broward county. As a volunteer with Catholic Hospice, you will receive specialized training in serving hospice patients and ongoing support to meet the specific needs of terminally ill patients living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities, and medical centers. Taking a few hours out of your week to spend time with a hospice patient can make a profound difference in their life and yours. After your initial contact expressing interest in this volunteer opportunity, I'll email you a volunteer application to be filled out. Requirements for all new volunteers are the following: submit to a drug screening, background screening, and TB (Tuberculosis) test, which is at the cost of Catholic Hospice. Volunteer: Social Work InternsAt AccentCare we strive to offer uniquely rewarding internship experiences, including the opportunity to directly serve patients and families. The contributions our interns make are invaluable, which is why they are directly included in the coordination of care among the interdisciplinary team. Interns receive many opportunities to learn from an experienced staff of all disciplines. Interns improve their psychosocial support skills as they are exposed to a variety of clinical settings, demographics, and diagnoses. In addition, interns learn clinical documentation via an electronic medical record under the close supervision of staff members. We are proud of the role we play in training upcoming professionals to understand and care for patients facing life-limiting illnesses and consider an internship a success when the intern leaves feeling as if they were treated as a valued, equal member of the team.
