Who We Are

Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency (LAORA), a Division of the Daughtry Family department of Surgery at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is one of the nation’s 58 federally designated organ recovery agencies certified and regulated by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Life Alliance is a tax-exempt, nonprofit service organization that has the unique role of saving lives through organ donation and transplantation, as well as providing organs and tissues for research to advance medical science. LAORA serves a population of more than 6 million in the six counties of South Florida, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

What We Do

Donation Information Tables: Help educate the public about organ and tissue donation, share facts, dispel myths, and assist those interested in registering to become a donor at Health Fairs and Community Events. This would be whenever there's a fair, and would be whatever hours the student could attend. Usually health fairs are around 3-4 hours. Speaking opportunities: Share your personal testimony with civic groups, high schools, colleges, hospitals, driver license offices, and many other organizations. In-office Opportunities: There are always various office projects to completed. Stuffing envelopes, making phone calls, or other miscellaneous tasks. Virtual Volunteering: Help remotely through the use of Google and Excel to create and update various contact lists. Help in on-campus campaigns, and activities - including tabling. Special Events: There are many unique events in our community where you can contribute your time. For example, our annual 5K run in November.
