Therapy Dog Teams Miami

Who We Are

Brian Galea (UM BS’12) and Dee Hoult (UM MBA’09) have organized a group of Therapy Dog volunteers, simply title ‘Therapy Dog Teams Miami’. Therapy Dogs are the actual pet dogs of volunteer who bring them to visit patients in healthcare facilities. Our group includes registered therapy dog teams, new teams, and certified Tester/Observers (T/O’s) of the nationwide registration org, Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD). The goal with this group is to greatly increase the numbers of therapy dogs and facilities for them to visit in South Florida by informing potential volunteers of this wonderful opportunity and coordinating the T/O’s, volunteers, and facilities.

What We Do

- Therapy Dog Handler: will volunteer with their own pet dog to visit patients at the facility of their choosing. Each facility will have different requirements for minimum hours per semester, but have agreed to be flexible and accommodating for students. ATD requires members make minimum 1 visit per 3 months to maintain membership. An individual visit will vary from 45min-2hr depending on the dog's energy, enthusiasm, and level of stress.
